Forest

 

Day:
suns out. warm. bugs buzzing. birds chirping. soft breeze. leaves rustle in trees. rabbits hope around. calm. music in headphones.

Night:
moon dimly lights floor of forest. crickets distantly hum. stray animals scurry across the fallen leaves. footsteps echo from the trees. sticks snap left and right. chilling breeze rolls through the rows of trees.

dystopia

beyond the guarded white car towered the ominous city mellow puff factory

behind the strange vehicle stood the rookie guard his first day and his last.

beneath the towering smoke stacks purred the engine of the inspectors car, surrounded by trigger happy mercenaries.

on the draw bridge was a white car surrounded in guards

upon the suspicious car loomed the town hall of farmville

 

State of Mind

Act 2 Scene 1

“Is this a dagger which I see before me,
The handle toward my hand? Come, let me clutch thee.
I have thee not, and yet I see thee still.
Art thou not, fatal vision, sensible
To feeling as to sight? or art thou but
A dagger of the mind, a false creation”

Shakespeare shows how someones mind can be changed and damaged because of guilt and regret. if the dagger were to be real in his mind that would damage and possibly kill him. his mind is dealing with the guilt by altering his vision making him believe it is real. he creates the dagger to move the blame to someone else and make him think it is not him doing the killing. he reaches out to the dagger only to find that it is untouchable as it is a “dagger of the mind” this suggests that not only will this dagger be killing Duncan but it will also damage Macbeth mind. The human mind is very complex, it creates false thoughts to deal with guilt and regret. it also shows in hindsight that using the dagger and killing Duncan may lead to his own demise.

Andy Weir| The Martian #5

The Martian is a science Fiction set in 2035 on Mars and Earth. the crew are forced off of mars 6 days into their month long stay and they all leave except Mark Watney the books protagonist who was believed to be dead. he was to survive for 550 sols (24 hours and 40 minutes). he does this by growing potatoes and rashoning while getting communication with earth back on and travelling 3,200 kilometers to get to the next mars mission. he is faced with many dangers. his crop dying due to explosion, his transport flipping but his biggest threat is loneliness.

A main theme for this book is perseverance. many times life has hit Watney hard but he always got back up on his feet and continued. This relates to me with my Computing Web Development task. i had many issues that seemed impossible to fix but after taking a minute or a day to think about it i managed to fix it and make my work 100% better each time.

due to my perseverance and stubbornness of not wanting to change my design I ended up receiving an Excellence mark for my hard work. another text which follows this theme is Ready Player One which is about a boy in a dystopian future determined to do anything and everything to win and survive

 

soliloquy – Macbeth

she should have died hereafter

There would have been a time for such a word.
Tomorrow, and tomorrow, and tomorrow,
Creeps in this petty pace from day to day
To the last syllable of recorded time,
And all our yesterdays have lighted fools
The way to dusty death. Out, out, brief candle!

Look like the innocent flower but be the serpent under’t

if this wasnt a metaphore this would mean that people see a flower and not see what it is hiding. for shakespear this means that Macbeth was a warm friendly person on the outside (flower) but really he is evil on the inside with evil intentions (serpant)

Scene two, Act one summary

Events: the king is greeted by an injured soldier who informs him of the battle. rosse enters and tells him about the out come and how it was won. along with who was involved.

Quote: ” What he hath lost, noble Macbeth hath won.”

characters: Duncan, Malcolm, Donalbain, Lenox, Macbeth, Banquo, Rosse, Angus

location: Kings palace

Events: Duncan is notified of the traitors’ death and congratulates Macbeth and Banquo om their efforts and appoints his son Malcolm as the new King

Events: Lady Macbeth receives a letter from macbeth explaining the witches and his eagerness to be king, Lady macbeth fears a lack of evilness and plans to kill the ming herself when he arrives. macbeth seems not to sure about the idea of killing his friend.

Act One, Scene Six, Seven Summary

Characters: Duncan, Malcolm, Donalbain, Banquo, Lennox, Macduff. Ross, Angus

Location: Macbeths Castle

Events: Duncan Arrives for dinner at Macbeths, Macbeth is out in the kitchen contemplaiting the murder of his friend and king. Lady Macbeth convinces him to continue with the plan and then explains it to macbeth. he then joins them for dinner. Duncan knows something is up

Act two, Scene One Summary

Characters: Macbeth, Banquo, Fleance

Location:Macbeths Castle

Events: macbeth decides he is going to kill the king at midnight lying to his friends. he talks to an imaginary dagger and questions his sanity

Quote: “is this a dagger i see before me”

Act two, Scene Two

Characters: Macbeth, Lady Macbeth

Location: Macbeths Castle

Time: After midnight

Events: Macbeth kills duncan and returns to Lady Macbeth. She returns the daggers to the gaurds and frames them, Macbeth feels high guilt while Lady Macbeth brushes it off as if nothing happened. there is a knock at the door and it is time for them to pretend to be inocent.

Quote: “Will Great neptune’s ocean wash this blood clean from my hand? no, this my hand will rather the multitudinous seas incarnadine, Making green the red.”

Act Two, Scene Three

Characters: Macbeth, Lady Macbeth, Malcolm, Porter, Macduff, Lennox, Banquo, donalbain, Ross

Location: Macbeths Castle

Time: Morning after Duncans death

Events: Porter opens the door to Lennox and Macduff, who are there to check on the king. Macbeth joins them and leads Macduff to Duncan. he discovers he is killed and macbeth has killed the guards out of anger. the guests hear the news and Donalbain and Malcolm leave due to the threat that they might be blamed for the murder. people don’t believe it was the guards.

Quote: “The Lord’s anointed temple, and stole thence
The life o’ the building!”

Act Two, Scene Four

Characters: Macduff, Old Man, Ross

Time: 2 days after murder

Location: outside Macbeths Castle

Events: They talk about the messed up order of nature and choose who will go to Macbeths king making thing and Duncans Buirial.

Quote”Then ’tis most like
The sovereignty will fall upon Macbeth.”0

Act Three, Scene Two.

Characters: Lady Macbeth, Servant, Macbeth

Location: The Palace

Time:

Events: Macbeth and Lady Macbeth are talking about the killing of Duncan and that they will need to eliminate Banquoe and fleance. Macbeth is trying his hardest to hide the truth and is struggling with the guilt. Lady Macbeth is deflated because she doesn’t think it was worth loosing all that she had. They talk about how there is still a risk and grave danger although Duncan is in his grave.

Quote: “We have scotch’d the snake, not kill’d it”

Scene Five, Act Three

Characters: First Witch, Hecate

Location: A heath

Time: Unknown

Events: with one is greeted by an angry hecate. Hecate is complaining about being left out of Macbeth trick and announces that they will meet him again

Scene Six: Act Three

Characters: Lennox, Lord

Location: Forres

Time: Unknown

Events: Lennox and Lord discuss the people traveling to England and prepare for war against them.

Events: Macbeth meets up with the witches seeking answers. he meets Hecate and three apperitions answer his queries. he is shown that banquos children and their children will be kings to come. he is told no mortal can kill him but macduff is still a threat. lennox arrives and tells macbeth Macduff has fled to England. Macduff begins to question his sanity about seeing the witches

Who chafes, who frets, or where conspires are:
Macbeth shall never vanquished be until
Great Birnam wood to high Dunsinane hill
Shall come against him.”

Scene Two. Act Four

Characters. Lady Macduff, Son, Murderer, Messenger. Ross

Location. Fife

Time. Unknown

Events. Ross informs Lady Macduff and her son that Macduff has abandoned them and fled to England. Lady Macduff tells her son that Macduff has died and her son is not worried.  A messenger arrives to inform lady macduff of her danger moments before a murderer arrives and says that macduff is a traitor and kills her son. she runs away.

Quote. “What had he done, to make him fly the land?”

Scene Three Act Four

Characters: Malcolm, Macduff, Ross, Doctor

Location: England, Before the kings castle

Time: Unknown

Events: Macduff and Malcolm are in England and macduff learns of his families death. they decide to use the English army to throw Macbeth off. also they argue a little bit and talk about what is happening in Scotland.

Quote: “Be called our mother, but our grave” – referring to the country”

Scene One, Act 5

Characters: Lady Macbeth, Doctor, Women Person

Events. Doctor is called because lady Macbeth be tripping. Sleep Walking

Scene two, Act Five

Characters: MENTEITH, CAITHNESS, ANGUS, LENNOX, and Soldiers

Location: Country near dunisnane

Time: Unknown

Events: The lads got togeather to chat about where Donalbaine is. they are preparing for battle

Quote: “Now does he feel
His secret murders sticking on his hands;
Now minutely revolts upbraid his faith-breach”

Scene Three. Act Five

Characters: Seyton, Macbeth, Doctor, Servent

Location: A room in the castle, Dunsinane

Time: Unknown

Events: Macbeth is Taking his anger about the thousands of men waiting to take is kindom out on his servants. He demands the imposible from the doctor wanting a medical cure for what is going to happen. Seyton is told to gather more information about army. Macbeth is Stubborn and beleives that this army cannot kill him untill the forest has moved.

Quote: Bring it after me.
I will not be afraid of death and bane,
Till Birnam forest come to Dunsinane.

Scene Four, Act Five

Characters, Malcolm, Siward, Mentieth

Location: Country near Birnam wood.

Time: Unknown

Events: Malcom And Co rally up the soldiers ready for war against Macbeth

Scene Five, Act Five

Characters: Macbeth, Seyton, Messenger, Soldiers

Location: In the castle

Time: Before war

Events. Macbeth is getting his troops ready for war when a messenger informs Macbeth of Lady Macbeths death. at first he is in denial but when it is explained she killed herself he beleived the messenger.

Quote: I have almost forgot the taste of fears;
The time has been, my senses would have cool’d

Act Five, Scene Six

Characters: siward, Macduff, Malcolm

Location: Before the Castle

Events: The three meet to discuss to kill the tyrant macbeth

quote: Make all our trumpets speak; give them all breath,
Those clamorous harbingers of blood and death.

Act Five, Scene Seven

Characters: Malcolm, Macduff, Macbeth, Young siward, Siward

Location: Part of the battle field

Events: Macduff, Malcolm, Siward, young Siward and Macbeth are on the battle feild. Macbeth slays Young siward, Macduff screams at macbeth to show himself.

Quote: Thou wast born of woman
But swords I smile at, weapons laugh to scorn,
Brandish’d by man that’s of a woman born.

Act Five, Scene Eight

Characters: Macbeth, Macduff, Malcom, Siward, Ross

Location: another part of the field

Events: Macduff and Macbeth duke it out on a field. Macbeth claims he is unkillable but macduff says that there is a loop hole. Macduff kills Macbeth. Siward Malcolm and Ross enter and talk about young siwards noble death. macduff re enters with Macbeth’s head and Malcolm is named rightful king.

Quote: We shall not spend a large expense of time
Before we reckon with your several loves,
And make us even with you. My thanes and kinsmen,
Henceforth be earls, the first that ever Scotland
In such an honour named. What’s more to do,
Which would be planted newly with the time,
As calling home our exiled friends abroad

Hesitation- spoken and text

Spoken language can communicate more than just what is said. The fluency of the speaker shows the confidence of the speaker and their knowledge of the topic.

“You lose a bit of control every time you insert hesitation into your speech.”

An example of this would be hesitation. “Yes, the um.. The match is really going to be decided on the, like the form of the teams, and like luck of the day”. As seen here there is uncertainty in the speech where there is hesitation. Not only do the speakers show a lack of knowledge of the topic, it also shows unpreparedness and unsureness of what they are talking about. However, text language doesn’t usually show this. Due to the fact that texting isn’t always instant, it gives the user a chance to be able to word what they say careful and find appropriate answers.

Hesitation can lead to a loss of control in your speech for example, ” in speech umm.. (next person) I am talking about something different and not interested.” Here the speaker has paused and lost the professionalism in his speech. This may lose the interest of others then, in turn, losing the audience and your control.

In text language hesitation doesn’t usually show in the forms of “Um” “ah” as it does in spoken language. For example, in the text, if the user is lost or uninterested they might say “haha ha ha haha.” When something is not funny. Words such as “LOL” are just fillers as they have lost most of their meaning due to over use.

In conclusion, I believe that the way someone speaks or texts shows their knowledge, confidence and interest in the topic. if you have a more stronger and fluent speech you show a high understanding and confidence

 

Language Investigation – Hypothesis

1.

Hesitation in spoken language shows that the speaker may be distracted, uncertain or unprepared for the topic that they are talking about such as ‘ UM ‘ ‘ AH ‘ and ‘ Like ‘.

2.

Spoken language can communicate more than just what is said. The idiolect of the speaker shows the confidence of the speaker and their knowledge of the topic.
