Language Investigation – Hypothesis

Hesitation in spoken language shows that the speaker may be distracted, uncertain or unprepared for the topic that they are talking about such as ‘ UM ‘ ‘ AH ‘ and ‘ Like ‘.

Spoken language can communicate more than just what is said. The idiolect of the speaker shows the confidence of the speaker and their knowledge of the topic.

  1. The second hypothesis will be the most useful. I think, generally speaking, that idiolect is a term reserved for newly invented words and language as opposed to the prosody of the speech, so perhaps you’ll want to use a word like ‘fluency’ instead?
